Today we’re going to test the TONOR TC-777 Microphone, an entry-level USB condenser microphone that looks like a much more expensive product.
Let’s get right to the point: the TC-777 is a fantastic microphone option at this price point. The sound performance is much better than we would expect from a microphone under $ 50, the build quality is good, and the plug-and-play design makes it a great choice for podcasters, streamers, newbies and everyone else, who just wants something that is easy to use and gets the job done.
We tried it for a week and put together this in-depth review to tell you everything you need to know before buying it. Read on, and we’ll go over the essential details.
Table of Contents
The TONOR USB Condenser Microphone is a compact microphone enclosure for office use. The kit consists of three pieces that can be easily assembled in one minute.
The first part is the microphone itself, while the smallest half of the microphone is a blue colour with the house with tapers to fit the stand. At the top of the box, you will see a TONOR silver logo with a silver band directly on top of it. The collection stands from the top of the box, with a metal cover covering it.
A foam cap can also be used as an option. It is not necessary for indoor use. However, if you use your microphone outdoors, it may help to avoid the sound of the wind.
A 60-inch USB cable is kept away from under the microphone. It is fastened with a reinforced bracket so that it can be bent easily without damage. And with a relatively long cable, you can place it anywhere on your desk and even reach your PC.
The second part of the packaging is a simple shock absorber. It is a spring-loaded rubber set that eliminates clutter. If there is an earthquake today, your microphone is running. But it did not sound because someone was crossing the room.
The shockproof bracket can be easily opened and closed by opening just a few clips. On the one hand, a 4-inch pop guard is mounted on a 7-inch accessory. This screensaver is important to reduce the sudden high tones like the letters P and K. Bend the gooseneck to position it about 5 cm from the microphone and you are good to go.
We come to the most important part: the sound performance. I have to be honest: I’m happy here. The TC-777 sounds better than I expected
The overall tone and explanation of the TC-777 is a bit shocking considering the price. I made a direct comparison of my built-in portable microphone and as expected improved sound quality. The sound is clear and uncluttered in the background.
Unfortunately, I can’t compare it to other popular USB microphones like the Blue Yeti, but I think it looks very similar.
Some medium to low-frequency frequencies are missing, but none are exceptional. With some audio improvements in the post that help make things better, it’s hard to distinguish them from more expensive microphones.
Noise flow and audio isolation are also higher than average. I did not notice any microphone sound and very little distortion in the recording in the deepest recording area.
It should be positioned so that your mouth is approximately 50 cm away from the microphone for maximum recording quality. If you are very close, explosives such as P, T, and S may hit, but the context filter can help reduce that.
A quick note: if you use it for streaming, it retrieves a lot of sound from mechanical keyboards. If it is difficult, your audience can hear it by pressing the buttons.
Overall, the sound performance is nice to look at the price. It’s not really professional studio quality, so don’t plan on recording vocals for your next album on this track, but it’s a big step away from a built-in laptop or camera microphones.
Today, the TC-777 is available for only $ 41.99, which is definitely worth the money. It is under half the price of Blue Snowball and still has performance comparisons. Even if TONOR is very cheap, it does not have any shortcuts. The microphone and accessories are well-built and sturdy.
Besides, the set contains accessories such as a stand, shock absorber mount and pop filter, which gives added value. If you bought all of these separately, it’d probably cost you at least $20 alone.
