Fujifilm’s XF 50-140mm f2.8 is a bright telephoto zoom for its X-mount mirrorless cameras. Announced in September 2014, it delivers a popular 75-210mm equivalent range with a constant f2.8 focal ratio that’s ideal for close-range sports, action and wildlife shooting, as well as portrait work with flattened perspective and shallow depth-of-field effects.

The optical design employs 23 elements in 16 groups with five ED elements and one Super ED element. The focal ratio is a constant f2.8 throughout the range and there’s seven rounded aperture blades. The focus system boasts triple linear motors for fast, smooth and quiet operation. The lens sports optical image stabilisation and a closest focusing distance of 1m for a maximum magnification of 0.12x. The barrel is dust and weather-sealed, measures 83mm in diameter, 176mm in length, weighs 995g and employs a 72mm filter thread.

There’s a variety of telephoto zooms now available for the X-series, including more affordable options for those on tighter budgets, or longer focal lengths for greater reach, but if you need a tele-zoom with a bright and constant f2.8 focal ratio for low-light shooting or shallow depth-of-field effects, then the XF 50-140mm is the one to go for.
